Gale Jamieson Artist Statement

I have always had a love for making things, particularly the process of making. I work with a concept that “an idea seeks it’s own form”. Material and its nature are source. Each piece is a story, a journal of moments and an inquiry into culture, interconnections, impermanence. By changing the context in which an ordinary object is experienced, seeing the ordinary in a non-ordinary way, a shift in perception can occur.

Biography

Originally from Baltimore, MD, she now resides in S. PA with a studio in her barn and in York, PA. She received a BA from Towson University and apprenticed in custom architectural millwork, woodcarving, and reproductive antiques. Her sculpture is exhibited extensively in the mid-Atlantic region, and is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art. She has participated in residencies in NY, FL, NY, VA, France, and Ireland.
